10-yr-old rape case Chandigarh: Both uncles get life imprisonment till death
A local court on Thursday awarded life imprisonment till death to both maternal uncles for raping a 10-year-old. A fine of Rs 3.5 lakh has also been imposed to each out of which Rs three lakh is to be paid as compensation to the victim. The court had found both guilty under Section 376 (2) (f) (i) (n) of the IPC and Section 5 (l) (m), punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. The case caught the attention of the national and international media when the 10-year-old was found pregnant. When the girl was taken for a medical check in july by her mother, the pregnancy was discovered. The girl then told the police that her maternal uncle raped her. However, the DNA of the baby did not match with that of the uncle. It was then discovered that the younger uncle also raped the girl. -PTC News
