A 17-year-old rape survivor, who was denied permission to abort her 26-week-old fetus, delivered a boy on Friday at the Sassoon Hospital, Pune. We don’t know if it’s a happy news or a sad one, happy because the rape victim is fine and is now going to lead a better life, or sad, for a 17 year old student has to go through all of this. The parents of the Class XII student said they are giving the baby for adoption stating that their daughter should return to academics and move on in life with everything for better. The family said they would have had a change of heart if the father of the newborn had looked them up. 17 year old rape survivor delivers baby boy, newborn up for adoption The victim had approached the Bombay High Court requesting permission to abort the foetus. However it was turned down by the court as the foetus was 26 weeks old and abortion could cause risk to the victim. The girl's family had filed a complaint against 23-year-old Prashant Ashok Sarwade, accusing him of rape. Prashant 24, was an engineering student who had however claimed that he was in a relationship with the girl and that they had married in August 2016. He stated that he was in his final year of a computer engineering degree when he met the victim, who was in Class XII. They became friends, fell in love and decided to get married. Since then, they were living as husband-wife in Solapur. He also claimed that the victim was ready to live with him, but was being put under pressure by her father not to do so. We hope the girl moves on and full fills her dreams, kudos to the family support! —PTC News
