No Oxygen, 60 died in Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur hospital

60 died Baba Raghav Das Medical College: After the case, where Rajbhar, a resident of Bihar who had traveled 125 km for his son’s treatment filed a FIR against the health minister for the death of his son due to lack of supply of oxygen. He also stated that the post-mortem was not done after his child’s death. Seems like the stars of the hospital are in bad position, or probably the doctors are not in the right position. Forty-two fresh deaths have been reported within four days at Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College from August 12 to August 15. From August 7 to 11, about 60 children had died at the hospital due to encephalitis. The state government believes encephalitis—a long-time scourge in this part of the state—is the reason for the mounting death toll. While the termination of liquid oxygen supplies at the hospital is causing the conditions to worsen. The five-member panel said Dr Satish Kumar, the head of Department of Anaesthesia, was “prima facie guilty of not discharging his duties”. It also named Gajanan Jaiswal, the chief pharmacist, and Dr Rajiv Mishra, the principal of the medical college. Gorakhpur District Magistrate Rajeev Rautela has ordered a magisterial inquiry which will within 24 hours clarify if oxygen supply had been the root cause of the deaths. He said, there had been some problem with the piped supply but doctors said that there was a stock of 50 cylinders and another 100 were on their way. As per the inquiry conducted after the report was filed, financial anomaly came out to be a cause of shortage of oxygen. Two petitions have been filed in the Allahabad High Court on the Gorakhpur deaths. The case is under investigation. -PTC News
