Beautification of the main entrance at the Golden Temple, Amritsar begins Devotees take part in kar sewa (voluntary service) for the beautification at the main 'Ghanta Ghar' entrance of Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar, that has been started on Friday. The kar sewa was awarded to Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuriwale. Though there are four other gateways to the Shrine, yet the ‘Ghanta Ghar’ is used the most by devotees. Cleaning of the gold plating on Golden Temple is done from time to time by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to fight pollution and keep the shrine in clean. Often the cleaning is done with reetha (soap nut). The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has got the cleaning done from time to time. A team from a UK-based Sikh volunteers’ group started cleaning the gold plating on Golden Temple that has been affected by pollution in August 2016. There were 20 people who volunteered to clean Golden Temple’s gold plating. -PTC News
