Bhoomi Movie Review: Bajhan Ko Purta De, Purti kyu nai?

"Bajhan ko Putr de, Putri kyu nai" from Jai Ganesh Deva aarti are substantial dialogues from the film, to show a mirror on how women are still stereotyped. The film revolves around the central theme of rape, violence against women and a girl’s character.  Where movies like ‘ Maatr’ and ‘ Mom’ fight to avenge the wrongs done to their daughters, Bhoomi will unfold the story of father who goes to any extent fighting for his daughter. https://twitter.com/Genius_003/status/911155185283604480 Dutt is a single parent who shares a loving relationship with his daughter Bhoomi (Aditi Rao Hydari), an educated, independent, working girl. He cooks her dinner and gives her a head massage. She dyes his hair, makes parathas. The bond they share is of love, friendship and the perfect baap-beti duo. https://twitter.com/aditiraohydari/status/911051357980852225 " Ek larki ka maika hota hai, sasural hota hai, par ghar kaha hota hai papa?" a dialogue from Bhoomi. Bhoomi gets raped just a day before her wedding. The film takes an insensitive turn on the sensitive topic of rape and a girl’s character. The cops, lame public prosecutor, the even lamer defence and the whole court-room drama begins as the fashion of questioning a female’s virginity is all the parameter to call her a woman of good character. The film is visually appealing and engaging, the dialogues are minimal while the expressions take away the limelight. With Aditi Rao Hydari’s beauty and evolution of the character, nothing makes it better. However, the film is a heads up with Sanjay Dutt and his outstanding acting. The lion has aged but he's got terrific screen presence even today! Dutt returns to the stage to give us all the answers desired, in an age-appropriate role. Bhoomi seems to be the most perfect film for a com back for Mr Dutt after 3 long years of disappearance from the silver screen. We suggest you take out time this weekend, if you seek serious cinema. -PTC News
