Hockey Olympian and international umpire Geeta Biswas (nee Sareen) is no more. Sixty-three-year-old Geeta, who retired from Air India, represented India in 1980 Moscow Olympic games.
She died in Mumbai this morning after a protracted illness.
Geeta, a centre-half and a forward, played for India for a number of years and had the distinction of leading the national team in the Madras International tournament in 1975. She played her first Nationals in 1968. She played for India in Japan (1970), New Zealand (1971), France (1974), Scotland (1975), Canada (1975) besides Moscow Olympic games.
After retirement from active hockey, she took to umpiring.
