Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament 2018:The Netherlands avenge earlier pool game loss

The hosts Netherlands avenged its opening game 1-2 defeat at hands of Olympic champions Argentina by winning the bronze medal game in the 37th and farewell edition of Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament at Breda on Sunday. Video referrals once again dominated the fourth and last quarter that saw the Netherlands scoring twice - first by Hertzberger of a penalty corner in the 47th minute and the second my Mirco Pruijser of a penalty corner rebound in the 54th minute. In between , a "goal" scored by Argentina in 48th minute could not get approval of Video Referee. The Netherlands was hoping for a gold on the home turf but it ended with a bronze. Olympic champions were disappointed as they ended fourth. The South Americans could not make use of penalty corners as Gonzalo Pellet, highest scorer of the tournament, could not produce lethal flicks that have been paralysing defence of all teams. It was he who scored a hat trick of goals, the first of the tournament, against the World Cup champions and World number one Australia in the last pool game. But today, it was the Netherlands that overcame the disappointment of yesterday's shock 1-1 against India that denied it a place win the gold medal match.
