India made it to its second final of the Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament since 2016, thanks to Video Referee's intervention that disallowed a goal by the hosts, the Netherlands, two minutes from the final whistle. India needed a draw to play Sunday's gold medal match. Its opponents, the hosts, Netherlands, however, needed a win to play the gold medal match against World Cup champions and defending champions Australia. After three quarters of no goal, it was India that took lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter. It was Mandeep Singh who scored following a penalty corner melee. The advantage was, however, squandered away in the 55th minute when Thierry Brinkmann scored with a powerful reverse flick. The goal was disputed by India saying it has been hit by the back side of the stick. The Video Referee, however, upheld the decision of the ground umpire. It was in the 58th minute when the Netherlands scored again following a ree hit. Since India had lost its video referral, the ground umpire, after awarding the goal, sought Video Referee's opinion that reversed the decision saying that free hit was taken before stopping the ball and also five yards rule was not followed. The Video Referee's decision was a huge disappointment not only for the hosts team but also its supporters. Indians managed the remaining 90 seconds to secure a draw and a berth in Sunday's gold medal match. Though Indians were all celebrations, the home team players were crestfallen as they thought, the umpires had snatched the match from them, depriving them of a "possible" hard fought win. Earlier, Olympic champions Argentina surprised World Cup champions Australia 3-2 to earn a chance to play the Bronze medal against the hosts, the Netherlands. Pakistan and Belgium will play for the fifth and sixth positions.-
