Champions Trophy: World champions Australia, Belgium play 3-3 draw

Defending World Cup champions Australia were held to a 3-3 draw by Belgium in the third final game of the opening day of the farewell edition of Champions Trophy at Breda in the Netherlands on Saturday. Earlier, India drubbed Pakistan 4-0 while Olympic champions Argentina beat the hosts, the Netherlands, 2-1. The game between Belgium and Australia turned out to be a tall scoring game which ultimately turned out to be the first drawn game of the tournament. Of six goals scored, five were field goals. Only Jake Whetton of Australia scored the sixth and last goal from a penalty corner. Cedric Charlie was the first to score in the ninth minute at the culmination of a brilliant move. The World champions had to wait for 11 minutes to score the equaliser through Trent Mitton. A minute later Sharp Lachlan had the Kangaroos in the lead with a superb field goal. After changing over, Arthur de Sloover restored parity for Belgium in the 37th minute. Ten minutes later Tom Boon put the Europeans ahead with a good field goal. It was Jake Whetton who put the two teams at par in the 50th minute.
