Chancellor of Private University sentenced to two years : The Chancellor of the Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, has been convicted for two years in a cheque bounce case by the local court. According to the information, Dr. Zora Singh, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment, the court has also directed the convict to pay Rs 21 lakh. In addition to it, he will also have to pay back Rs 21 lakh , the amount that he had to pay to the aggrieved party. But, he was granted bail the same day. The bail is valid for 30 days to allow him to file an appeal in the High Court.Chancellor of Private University sentenced to two yearsIt is to inform that Sanjay Singla of Mandi Gobindgarh had filed a complaint against Zora Singh. The counsel of the complainant said that Singla had given Singh Rs 21 lakh as part of funding for his institute. Singh was paying back the amount with interest. However, when other people’s cheques started getting bounced, Singla asked Singh to return his money. Singh’s employee then gave Singla a cheque for the amount on September 20, 2016. Though, when Singla encashed the cheque, it got bounced.Chancellor of Private University sentenced to two yearsAfter this, Sanjay Singla, filed a complaint in the District Courts against Zora Singh under Sections 138/142 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. He alleged that Zora Singh had stopped the payment on his cheque. Prior to this, Zora Singh had filed an application in the court saying that he had never signed any such cheque. He had asked the court to verify the signatures on the cheque. His application was rejected by the lower court against which he had appealed in the Session’s court.
