Cong govt again postpones election of vice president of Lalru MC; violates HC order

Congress government again postpones election of vice president of Lalru Municipal Council leading to a protest by Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday. Even after the order of the High Court, today's election could not be held. The election to the post of the vice-president were earlier postponed on April 16, as Paramjit Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), who was appointed as the convener for the election by the Mohali Deputy Commissioner, could not turn up due to ill health. The post has been lying vacant for a year and a half. Mohali Administration is breaching the orders of the High Court, said MLA NK Sharma. The Honorable High Court had given four weeks time for the elections to be held again, NK sharma added.  Earlier he had said, its the murder of democracy. Sharma alleged that this had been done due to pressure from the ruling party. In April, none of the eight elected Congress councillors turned up for the poll and it was speculated that they already knew that the poll will be postponed. -PTC News
