Fatwa issued against Priya Prakash Varrier’s viral Oru Adaar Love song

Priya Prakash Varrier, the girl who became a start overnight with just a wink and a smile, found herself in the storm of the eye after a complaint was lodged against her viral Malayalam song Manikya Malaraya Poovi. A group of Muslim youth from Hyderabad on Wednesday alleged that the song has hurt their sentiments. Hyderabad-based Islamic seminary, Jamia Nizamia, has issued a fatwa against Priya Prakash’s song. They have urged the authorities concerned to remove the song from the film Oru Adaar Love before it arrives in cinemas. “Our objection is not for the film, but for the song which has references to Prophet Muhammad and his wife Khadijah Bibi. The director should have used some other characters to depict the love. Why should he take the name of the Prophet?” Jamia Nizamia secretary Ahmed Ali said. Mohammed Abdul Muqeeth Khan told reports, "I don't want any publicity. After all I am a small student (doing engineering) who is not willing to take to streets or organise people. I went through the lyrics and tried to understand it.; I approached Google translation. There is the name of our Prophet's wife, Khadijah Bibi. Then, I felt I should raise objection to it". Oru Adaar Love is a story about high school teenage romance and consists of 5 heroes and heroines. -PTC News
