Blindfolded walk to be held in Chandigarh today

In a novel initiative by the Chandigarh-based Dialogue Highway Trust in collaboration with The Project Vision,a blindfolded walk will be conducted on Oct 12, 2017 in Sector 17. Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu would flag off the walk. The idea is to give an experience of being blind to sighted people by taking them on a short blindfolded Walk. This will make people feel the difficulty of being blind, it is an example to the common man as to how difficult it is for the blind to live with blindness. The event is organised so that more and more people sign in to donate their eyes The Blind Walk will be led by blind persons, participated by about 500 sighted persons. We have a target of getting at least 500 eye donations. If we get an encouraging media response, we can aim at 1,000 eye donations. India has more than one third of Worlds 39 million blind persons, roughly 15 million and therefore it is important for us to ensure that we are able to motivate people to bring light into the life of the blind, says the organizers. The Walk is likely to start at 5.00 pm from Sector 17 Plaza and will terminate at same place in front of the fountains at around 7.00 pm. October 12th 2017 is the World Sight Day - observed under the aegis of World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Program for the Prevention of Blindness - Government of India. -PTC News
