FIFA World Cup 2018: Senegal upsets Poland to create history

After Japan, it was the turn of Senegal to write a new chapter in the annals of FIFA World Cup. In the second match of Group H, Senegal became the first African team in the history to defeat a European team in the World Cup. Senegal's 2-1 win over Poland followed a similar 2-1 win of Japan over Columbia. Today was the day of teams from lesser known continents of Asia and Africa FIFA World Cup 2018: Senegal upsets Poland to create history And if Senegal won, it was first because of first "own goal" and the second because of a serious lapse on the part of its players. It all happened in the 60th minute when Krychowiak of Poland pushed a ball back from Senegal's half to goalkeeper of his team, Szczesny. But before the Polish goalkeeper could rush and take control of the ball, Niang came running and pokes the ball past him before pushing the ball in an empty goal. It was a freak goal that came of a major avoidable lapse. Incidentally, this also gave Niang his first goal of the World Cup. The first goal of the match would go down in annals of the World Cup as "own goal", the fourth of the current tournament. Idrissa Gueye's attempted shot was off the target but Cionek, instead of clearing, shot it into his own goal, giving Szczesny, the goalkeeper, no chance. Krychowiak made amends when he in the 86 minute scored from a beautiful header to redeem some of the lost honour. But this goal was not enough as the African team played its hearts out to cling on to 2-1 lead till the end for a well-deserved win. A team conceding a self-goal and allowing a serious lapse to allow opponents take a goal on platter cannot hope to win the opening group match. Polish had every reason to be disappointed at their own undoing, losing all three points.-
