Uruguay had every reason to please itself with a solitary goal win over Saudi Arabia in a group A match of the FIFA World Cup 2018 on Wednesday. The win makes them the first South American team to secure a place in the round of 16.
The all-important goal came from Luis Suarez in the 23rd minute when he booted in from a close position. The goal, sixth for Suarez in World Cup, made the day special for him as he was playing his 100th international.
Though Saudi Arabia gave an excellent account of itself but missed chances and lack of luck prevented it from getting an equaliser on a day when the fans were treated to an excellent feast of some superb and entertaining soccer.
Uruguay had beaten Egypt by a solitary goal in its first game. In fact much was expected from Cayani, one of top scorers of Uruguay, but he failed to open his account after two games.
Though Uruguay has a game against the hosts Russia in hand, the match has become inconsequential as both Russia and Uruguay have assured themselves places in the round of 16 with two wins each.
