Financially empowered women are a strong wall against all social ills: PM MODI Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that women who are financially empowered are a “bulwark against societal evils,” while interacting with more than 1 crore women, who are associated with self-help groups all over the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi did his entire interaction through the ‘Narendra Modi Mobile App. He said, “For women empowerment financial independence is necessary. Women are enterprising, they don’t need to be taught, only need to be given opportunities to perform.” Modi addressed the importance of financially women empowerment, especially in the rural areas. If women are empowered financially at the grass-root level then, then it will help in the overall development of the society. He said, “Financial independence makes a woman assertive and empowered. Financially empowered women are a bulwark against societal evils.” The Prime Minister appreciated the role of self-help groups in the development of women at the grass-root level. Nearly 20 lakh self-help groups have been created since 2014. Also, they were able to help 2.25 crore families. PM Modi said, “So far 45 lakh women self-help groups have been created with 5 crore active women participants... in fact, these groups have added one more earning member in these five crore families in rural areas.” Narendra Modi also said that women’s participation is very essential especially in agricultural and animal husbandry sectors as they play an important role in developing rural economy. Women living at the grass-root level also shared their heartfelt stories and also shared their stories on how these self-help groups helped them improve their lives. Modi told that these women self-help groups are helping in making the financial base strong. The women in the country have the potential to transform the society for better.
