Third Fodder Scam Case: Lalu Yadav, Jagannath Mishra Get 5 Years In Jail

Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Yadav and Jagannath Mishra were sentenced to five years in jail and a Rs. 5 lakh fine each in a third fodder scam case today. Yadav is already serving a jail term in the second fodder scam case. A special CBI court convicted 50 people including RJD chief Lalu Yadav, former Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra in the third fodder scam case on Wednesday. The court acquitted six others in the fodder scam pertaining to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 83.13 crore from Chaibasa treasury of Jharkhand in 1992-93. Lalu Yadav, who was convicted to 3.5 years in the second fodder scam in connection with the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Devghar treasury of Jharkhand, is lodged in Birsa Munda jail here. The CBI had registered a case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 83.13 crore from Chaibasa treasury against 76 people in 1996. The probing agency had chargesheeted against 56 accused in 2001. Leader of Opposition and Lalu’s son Tejhaswi Prasad Yadav said they would challenge the verdict in the Ranchi High Court. -PTC News-
