Punjab and Haryana HC imposes Rs 25,000 fine on Punjab DGP The Punjab and Haryana high court imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Punjab director general of police (DGP) Suresh Arora as he failed to file a reply in a case that involves Raj Jit Singh Hundal, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Moga. The DGP fails to submit a reply to a May 22 order of the court. According to this order, he was to sought within two weeks on an affidavit submitted by Raj Jit. DGP fails to reply even on July 19date hearing. The court was to summon the DGP for August 13, but the law officers persuaded to exempt him from personal appearance. Following which he was fined Rs, 25,000. Suresh Arora’s reply was required in an alleged illegal detention case in which one Samanjeet Kaur, wife of Beant Singh of Moga. She spoke to the court on February 6 this year alleging that police picked up her husband and the court intervened to get him released from the Baghapurana police station. Later the warrant officer appointed had reported that the local station officer admitted of illegal detention without any FIR and DDR. A box in which some mobile bills of Beant Singh’s family were recovered from police station was also produced in the court. Over the same, high court wanted an answer from Raj Jit. Family of Beant Singh said that Beant Singh was kept in illegal detention for two days and was released when police got to know that family has moved court. Rajit filed an affidavit on March 28 in which he contradicted the court-appointed officer’s report.  Also, he said that there were complaints against Beant Singh’s links with the unscrupulous elements.  A DDR was claimed and a case was also registered against Beant Singh. -PTC News
