India’s Consulate General working to get access to Indians detained in US: Harsimrat Badal
Union Minster Harsimrat Kaur Badal took to social media site Twitter and said that she spoke to Minister of State for External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh who confirmed that India’s Consulate General in San Francisco is working to seek access to the Indians detained in US, here on Saturday.
'It is unfortunate that 52 Indians have been detained at a federal prison in Portland, Oregon (USA). Spoke to @Gen_VKSingh who has assured me that India’s Consulate General in San Francisco is working to seek access to the Indians detained in US,' said Union Minster Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Twitter.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to identify the Punjabis being held in a detention centre in the US and to take up the issue with her US counterpart to ensure that they receive consular and legal access.
The food processing minister said that according to media reports 52 Indians were detained in the facility in Oregon but there was no report about their identities.
