Suzuki, the Japanese carmaker Suzuki has unveiled the new generation 2017 Suzuki Swift in the Japanese market. The new model gets changes to exterior and interior along with new engine options. For Japanese market, the hatchback is available in three engine options - 1.2-litre K12C petrol, a 1.0-litre Boosterjet and a 1.2L Dualjet + SHVS. Courtesy of lighter platform, the new-generation Suzuki Swift will be better in performance than the current model. This is the same platform that currently underpins the Maruti Baleno, and the Ignis will be the second product on that. Compared to the existing Swift platform, the new one is about 100kg lighter yet stiffer. Dimensionally, the new Swift is 3,840mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,500mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,450mm. The new model is around 10mm shorter and 30mm taller, while the wheelbase has been increased by 20mm. The Japanese spec model comes with a ground clearance of 120mm. On the other hand, the India-spec model is expected to have a ground clearance of 170mm. The 2017 Suzuki Swift gets a significantly different design though the overall profile remains the same. With all-new hexagonal grille, floating roofline, all-new head & tail lamps and all-new alloys, the new model carries a sportier and more aggressive design language. The rear door handles have also been positioned on to the C-pillar - something that we have already seen on the Chevrolet Beat and Mahindra KUV100. The vehicle's cabin is plusher than the current model with better quality material. The changes include a new three-spoke steering wheel, SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration compatibility, newly designed AC vents, twin-pod instrument dials, etc. The model coming to India will be powered by the existing 1.2-litre K Series petrol and 1.3-litre MJD diesel units. The company might also introduce a 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol unit, which will also power the Baleno RS and the Vitara Brezza Petrol. New-gen Suzuki Swift could be launched in Europe and in India almost the same time in 2017. In fact, India, being the most important market for Suzuki, can get this before Europe. The Japanese spec model is equipped with several high-end safety and security features like seven airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera and sensors, ESP, hill hold assist, automatic headlamps and radar brake support. However, the India-spec model will only get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist as safety features.
