Nine men confined and raped two teenage girls over a fortnight in Chhattisgarh’s Koriya district. Police rescued the girls, aged 17 and 15 years, on Monday from a spot near the railway station in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh. According to Koriya Additional Superintendent of Police Nivedita Sharma, one of the girls was lured by the main accused on the pretext of marriage. "On March 4, the main accused Abhijeet Pal alias Pinku (20) took one of victims, with whom he was having an affair, on the pretext of marrying her. A friend of the victim accompanied them." Seven of the nine accused who were identified as Ashraf Ali (26), Manoj Kumar (28), Hemraj Panika (20), Avinash (28), Jitendra Kumar Rai (26) and Rakesh Kumar Navait (23) apart from Pal, were arrested, she said. Sharma said Pal, took the two minor girls to a place in Khongapani and raped them. "Later, Pal and eight of his friends repeatedly raped the two after confining them in Ledri and Bijuri villages," she said. The girls were rescued in a police raid which cops carried out after receiving a tip-off. The accused have been booked on charges of gang-rape, kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her to marry, wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. -PTC News-
