Olympian Jassi Jagjit Kular is no more

Ontario: Olympian Jagjit Kular, popularly known as Jassi, is no more. He died in Milton West, Ontario yesterday.  He was 74. Jassi has been one of several stars that Sansarpur, a small village on the outskirts of Jalandhar Cantonment, claims to have produced. Jassi, who initially played for Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, moved to Kenya from where he went to three Olympics, including Mexico 1988 and Munich 1972. Montreal 1976 was his last Olympics. He also played in the 1971 and 1973 World Cups, representing Kenya. He later settled in Ontario, Canada, and continued his association with hockey till his last days. A gentleman, Jassi was not only a great hockey player but also a committed hockey coach, promoter and a wonderful human being. Sansarpur has lost one of its stalwarts and a great son. The world of hockey has lost a great player, an Olympian and a committed promoter. —PTC News
