The land of Buddha and Gandhi will not tolerate violence in the name of faith- PM Modi

‘Mann ki Baat’: Violence in name of faith will never be tolerated, says PM ‘Violence in the name of faith would not be tolerated’ said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 35th edition of the ‘Mann ki Baat’ programme. Two days after more than 30 people were killed in violence and arson by followers of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda after their head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was found guilty of rape, Modi finally broke silence. In his statement he neither mentioned the state – Haryana nor did he mention the Dera. “Our country is the land of Buddha and Gandhi. Our ancestors have taught us ahimsa parmo dharma,” Modi said in the 35th edition of the ‘Mann ki Baat’ programme, adding that violence in the name of ‘aastha’ — faith — will not be tolerated. “I want to assure my countrymen that those taking law in this hands will not be tolerated by the country or people. The guilty will be punished,” he said. -PTC News
