Chandigarh, 18 October -  Sh. Surjit Kumar Jyani, Health and Family Welfare Minister ,Govt. of Punjab said that the good practices of the Punjab Govt. in Tobacco/Nicotine Control will be showcased in the Conference.  Two oral presentations and two poster presentations submitted by the Health Department, Punjab has been accepted for the conference. He also told that Dr Rakesh Gupta, State Programme Officer, Tobacco control has been deputed to make presentations in the conference. Ms. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, elaborated that The first oral presentation is about the “Impact of ban on smokeless tobacco products on tobacco consumption behavior in Punjab” whereas second presentation will be highlighting how the Pictorial Health Warning on Cigarettes Pack is highly effective in thinking about quitting. The two poster presentation will show the “Impact of Effective Monitoring and Regulatory Mechanisms on Vendors’ Compliance to Ban on Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems in Punjab, India” and a “Snapshot of Tobacco use among adult population in Punjab, India using GATS protocol” Dr. Rakesh Gupta said that, The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) will host its 47th Union World Conference on Lung Health this year on 26– 29th October at the Liverpool, UK. The event is the premiere global conference for researchers, health programme managers, policy experts, advocates and other leaders working to address Tuberculosis, Tobacco Control and other global health issues as they relate to low- and middle-income countries. The conference is expected to draw about 3,000 speakers, researchers and delegates from more than 125 countries. This world conference will be a huge platform to share the work done by the Punjab Govt. in the field of Tobacco/Nicotine Control regarding the effective implementation of Anti–Tobacco /Nicotine laws with rest of the world. He said that special steps initiated by the Food and Drug Administration Punjab under stewardship of Commissioner FDA Mr Hussan Lal, regarding the ban on flavored/scented chewable tobacco and E-cigarettes will be shared in the conference.-
