Punjab police arrest 2 more with links to terror module targeting `anti-panth’ leaders

Chandigarh: The Counter Intelligence Wing of the Punjab Police has nabbed two more persons with links to the terror module busted last month, tasked with targeting `anti-Panth’ leaders in the state. Gurpreet Singh and Simranjit Singh were arrested from their native villages of Jiwanwal (Faridkot) and Kamalpur (Moga), respectively, according to a police spokesperson, who said two .32 bore pistols, four magazines and cartridges have been recovered from their possession. According to the spokesperson, investigations have revealed that Canada based Gurjeet Cheema, now r/o Brampton, Toronto, during his visit to India earlier this year, gave two pistols, along with ammunition, to Gurpreet Singh @ Peet. The latter passed on one of the pistols to Simranjit Singh @ Nikka, for targeting of ‘anti-panthic’ people, based in Punjab. The arrests followed investigations into the case related to the busting of the terrorist module comprising Mann Sngh (district Gurdaspur) and Sher Singh (district Jalandhar) on May 21. The spokesperson said investigations into the case, registered as FIR no. 46 dated 21.5.2017 u/s 17,18,19,20 Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967, 25,54,59 A Act and 14 F, Act, PS Ramdas (Amritsar Rural Police district), are still continuing, Peet has disclosed that his namesake, Gurpreet Singh s/o Amarjit Singh r/o District Moga, said to be based in Vancouver Canada, had visited India between March-April 2016, and had indoctrinated and motivated him to work for the revival of terrorist activity in the State. Later, in 2017, Canada-based Gurpreet Singh arranged an operational meeting between Gurjeet Cheema, Gurpreet Singh @ Peet and Mann Singh at village Mudki (Moga district), where Gurjeet promised to arrange delivery of weapons for targeting of ‘anti-panthic’ people in the near future. Peet has also disclosed that Gurpeet Cheema and his associates based abroad (Canada), such as Gurjinder Singh r/o Brampton (Canada) were regularly funding him and other members of his module to promote terrorist activities, both through formal and informal financial channels. —PTC News
