Senior journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead at her residence in Banglore on Tuesday after unidentified assailants opened fire outside her residence. Lankesh was the editor of ‘Gauri Lankesh Patrike’, a weekly tabloid. The tabloid was free from advertisements and has been run by a group of 50 people. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called the murder an "assassination on democracy". Journalist and critic of Hindutva politics Gauri Lankesh shot dead Gauri has always been known for voicing her opinion fearlessly and having an outspoken attitude.  She was also a staunch critic of right-wing and Hindutva politics as was evident from her works published in different media outlets. Lankesh was the daughter of famous poet-turned-journalist P Lankesh, who began Lankesh Patrike. publive-image Various media organisations from Mumbai Press Club and Bombay Union of Journalists today condemned the killing of Kannda journo Gauri Lankesh and seek a speedy probe in the case. TV Journalists Association, Photographers Association and Network of Women in Media will join the protests. publive-image A candlelight vigil will be held at the press club here this evening, its secretary Dharmendra Jore said. "To protest and condemn the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh, there will be a candlelight vigil of journalists starting from the Mumbai Press Club at 7 pm today," he said. Gauri, 55, was hit by two bullets in the chest and one on the forehead, while she was opening the gate after returned home in her car, motorcycle-borne assailants fired at her indiscriminately. Bengaluru has come out outrageously over the murder of Gauri Lankesh. Across the country, editors and others condemned the murder and expressed concern over what they described as a growing intolerance to dissent. -PTC News-
