VP Venkaiah Naidu Rejects Impeachment Notice Against CJI

VP Venkaiah Naidu Rejects Impeachment Notice Against CJI Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu rejected the notice given by opposition parties on Monday morning, led by the Congress for the impeachment of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, citing lack of substantial merit in it, as per sources. He held extensive consultations with top legal and constitutional experts prior to making the decision, they said. Naidu rejected the notice citing lack of substantial merit in it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, called the rejection a victory of democracy. "Politically Biased Impeachment Motion Against Chief Justice Of India Rejected By Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu. This Is Victory Of Our Democracy," he said. The vice president cut short his visit to Hyderabad to hold deliberations over the notice given by the seven opposition parties considering the seriousness of the matter. Opposition parties, led by the Congress, had last week moved a notice before Naidu for the impeachment of the CJI on five grounds of "misbehaviour". This is the first time ever that an impeachment notice has been filed against a sitting CJI. -PTC News
