19-year-old student bleeds to death after illegal abortion, 7 months pregnant
Illegal abortion Hyderabad girl, causes death A 19 year old engineering student who was seven months pregnant died of excessive bleeding due to an illegal abortion. The incident took place at a private nursing home in Hyderabad. As her condition worsened, the doctor asked him to shift her to a private hospital, where she was announced dead. The parents were unaware of her pregnancy and police on Monday have arrested the doctor and the man who accompanied her to the hospital. As per reports, the girl was in a relationship with Madhu, the man who took her to the hospital. The doctors asked her to take pills In order to terminate the pregnancy, on Sunday morning the girl started bleeding heavily, consequently death. The parents say they were unaware of her pregnancy and approached the police on Monday. The police have arrested the doctor and the man who had accompanied her to the hospital. They have booked the doctor for causing death by miscarriage. A case of cheating has been filed against the man. The doctor took 20,000 rupees from them. Besides sections 312 and 314, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 also prevents termination of pregnancy, especially after 12 weeks. Except for a government hospital or place approved for the purpose, no other clinic or doctor has the licence to terminate a pregnancy. Police said they have written to the district medical health officer for a detailed questioning to the doctor and the private clinic. “Once the DMHO’s report after inspection of the clinic is done, depending on it, we will book the clinic and the doctor under the MTP Act,” said inspector S Murali Krishna. —PTC News
