1984 Sikh Genocide: Reopen 186 closed cases; petitioners urge SC

1984 Sikh Genocide: Reopen 186 closed cases; petitioners urge SC Petitioners urge the Supreme Court to reopen 186 closed cases in the 1984 Sikh genocide, here on Thursday. The petitioners told the court that despite the order of investigation in the 186 cases that were given in January this year, the new SIT has not started working on the closed cases yet. The Chief Justice said that he will look into the matter. 1984 Sikh Genocide: Reopen 186 closed cases; petitioners urge SC On January 9, a Bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra said the three-member SIT would be headed by a former High Court judge and have a former IPS officer not below or who is equivalent to the rank of an IG and a serving IPS officer. The new SIT constituted include- the retired Judge of the Delhi High Court, SN Dhingra, Retired IPS Rajdeep Singh and current IPS Abhishek Dular. The Supreme Court had said that the SIT would give status report within two months. But in February, the Center had pledged to recruit Navneet Ranjan Vasan instead of Rajdeep Singh. By 8th August, SIT has to submit the inquiry report. The Supreme Court had also sought response from Congress leader Sajjan Kumar on a plea filed by the SIT challenging the anticipatory bail granted to him by the Delhi High Court. -PTC News
