At least 25 killed in Afghan Shiite mosque attack: officials
At least 25 people were killed and dozens were wounded when a suicide bomber attacked a Shi’ite mosque in eastern Afghanistan during Friday prayers. Police said that at least two unidentified men entered the mosque in the city of Gardez in the province of Paktia where nearly 60 people were present. The blast hit the Khawaja Hassan mosque. Abdullah Hazrat, a senior government official who was at the blast site said, "Emergency teams have collected 25 bodies from the mosque premises and 40 people have been rushed to the hospital." Eye-witnesses told that Shi'ite Muslims, a minority in Sunni-majority Afghanistan, were praying when the blast struck. Another attacker has opened fire as worshippers gathered. -PTC NEWS
