Atleast 26 killed,18 wounding in suicide bomb near Shia shrine in Kabul A suicide bomber blew himself up in Kabul on Wednesday, leaving at least 26 people dead and 18 wounding, as per official statement. The incident took place near Shia Shrine as the Afghan capital celebrated the Nawruz holiday marking the start of the Persian New Year. Atleast 26 killed 18 wounding in suicide bomb near Shia shrine in Kabul Nasrat Rahimi, deputy interior ministry spokesman, said the bomber blew himself up near the Kart-e Sakhi shrine. The latest attack depicts the threat to the city from militants, even though the government promised to tighten security after an attack that took place in January that killed around 100 people. Wednesday’s blast, the latest in a series to have hit Shia targets in Kabul, came as people were walking away from the shrine. Nawruz, an ancient Persian celebration of the start of spring, is widely celebrated in Afghanistan but has also faced opposition from some fundamentalist Muslims, who say it is un-Islamic. -PTC News
