4 killed, 13 injured as a speeding truck rams into 14 vehicles in Tamil Nadu
Four people were killed and 13 people sustained injuries in an accident involving 15 vehicles in the Thoppur Ghat, bordering Dharmapuri and Salem, Tamil Nadu. It resulted in a traffic snarl running up to a few kilometers along the Salem-Bengaluru National Highway.
The accident occurred after a speeding truck rammed a line of vehicles that had slowed down along the ghat road because of an earlier accident.
Earlier in the afternoon, another accident of a two-wheeler and a mini-van caused a traffic jam. The area was being cordoned off by the police when the Salem- and Coimbatore-bound weekend traffic accumulated on the ghat stretch.
The driver of the truck escaped after halting the vehicle. The police are searching for the accused driver.
The manager at the toll plaza said that the driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle and the accident was caused due to his negligence.
Traffic on the route was disrupted for several hours due to the accident.
