44th Anniversary of Emergency: PM Narendra Modi shares highlights, Who said what

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, shares a video on the anniversary of Emergency in India, which was announced on June 25, 1975. Narendra Modi shared a video talking about all those incidents and havoc that took place during the Emergency back then. “The Nation was turned into the bars, oppositions voice were thrashed, the prominent leaders were sent to jail”, said Narendra Modi in a video. Also, he said that the newspapers were of no use, and then the people took the charge to spread the democracy in India. Internal vigilance is a price of liberty, said PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet said and I quote, “India salutes all those greats who fiercely and fearlessly resisted the Emergency. India’s democratic ethos successfully prevailed over an authoritarian mindset.”

Likewise, Union Minister Amit Shah shared a picture on Twitter saluting the fighters said, that it was on this day that the democracy was killed in the country for political interests. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in a tweet said and I quote, “On this day, we the people of India should always remember the importance of upholding the integrity our institutions and the Constitution.”

Likewise, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said and I quote, “Today is the anniversary of the #Emergency declared in 1975. For the last five years, the country went through a ‘Super Emergency’. We must learn our lessons from history and fight to safeguard the democratic institutions in the country”.

Today is the 44th Anniversary of the National Emergency that was imposed by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. The day was marked as an age of darkness.
