Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and cabinet minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi said that opposition leader Mr. H. S. Phoolka resigned from his post because he had been failed to get support of his party MLAs in the house during budget session. He said that Mr. Phoolka has claimed ’84 cases as a reason for his resignation just to save his face besides gaining applause from ’84 riot victims by touching their sentiments. Mr. Channi said that this development was quite apparent during the Vidhan Sabha Session when Mr. Phoolka walkout alone from the house for three times whereas his party MLAs decided to stay in the house. He said that everybody in the house witnessed the humility Mr. Phoolka faced repeatedly at the hands of his party men. Mr. Channi said that Mr. Phoolka was feeling rejected in his own party and the AAP MLAs were also not happy with his performance as a leader of the Opposition and they were on heels to replace Phoolka. In view of this, Phoolka himself chose the safe exit path using the sentiments of ’84 victims, he added. —PTC NEWS
