Home Minister Rajnath Singh intervenes after another Gurdwara sahib issued notice in Sikkim

Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh today had to intervene in the matter of crisis erupted in Sikkim on the issue of Gurudwara Sahibs when another Gurudwara Chungthang situated in North District was issued notice by local authorities. Home Minister asked the Sikkim Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Kumar Chamling to have a one to one meeting with the sikh delegation on Sunday on the issue so that matter could be resolved amicably. Issue was raised before the Home Minister by a  high level delegation of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) comprising S. Manjit Singh GK President, S. Manjinder Singh Sirsa General Secretary, S. Tarlochan Singh Ex Chairman Minorities Commission of India, S.  Kuldeep Singh Bhogal, National Organizing Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal and S. Paramjit Singh Rana,  Member, DSGMC & Councilor, which met the Home Minister in the morning today and also handed over a written memorandum on the issue. The delegation brought to his notice that pious Guru Granth Sahib ji and other articles related with faith were kept out of Gurudwara  Guru Dongmar Sahib in Sikkim some day ago and now the local authorities have issued notice to the management of another Gurudwara Sahib which was Chungthang Gurudwara Sahib in North district on the pretext of illegal encroaching. Members of the delegation wondered how a Gurudwara situated in the forests can encroach upon a land and said that they fear that there may be a deep rooted conspiracy being hatched against the sikh community and Gurudwara Sahibs. They urged the Home Minister to issue directions to the Sikkim government not to make any demolition/disturbances in Sikkim Gurudwaras. Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh took serious notice of the issue and immediately called on Sikkim Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Kumar Chamling on the issue. He also asked the sikh delegation to go to Sikkim and have one to one meeting with the Chief Minister so that this issued could be resolved at the earliest and amicably. The delegation also brought to the  notice of Home Minister that Law Ministry of Sikkim state had issued a notification on. 6.11.92 through which it was declared that religious character of  any place of worship as on 15th August 1947 will continue in the state. They also apprised him that the sikh community was performing requisite maryada at these Gurudwara Sahib since 1969 and also sought his help in restoration of previous situation and place the pious Guru Granth Sahib ji with due respect, decorum and to maintain status quo as ordered by honorable Supreme Court in the case of  Gurudwara Guru Dongmar Sahib. -PTC News-
