8-nation hockey: India juniors make a dismal start
Advertisment
Defending World Cup champions, India juniors made a dismal start in the 8-nation under-21 tournament in Madrid (Spain) on Monday losing to Australia 0-4.In other games, Belgium beat Great Britain 5-2 and Germany beat Austria 5-1.The Netherlands and Spain are the other teams competing in the tournament.
Australia played to a plan with tight marking while working out its moves by using gaps and better ball control. The first two goals, both of penalty strokes, came in the  25th and 44th minute. The scorer was  Nathan Ephraums. The strokes were awarded to the Kangaroos because of rough and avoidable tackling or infringements  by Indian defenders inside the striking circle. After taking a comfortable 2-0 by middle of the second half, Australians continued with their purposeful forays keeping Indian defenders on their toes. It was in the 53rd minute that Australia got its first field goal through Liam Hart. And just before the final whistle, it was Ehren Hazell who made the score 4-0 for Australia with a brilliant field goal.
