9 newborn die in 24 hours at Gujarat hospital, Govt to probe
Largest in Asia, Nine newborn died in a day at a government hospital in Ahmedabad, it has forced the Gujarat Government to sit up and appoint a three-member committee to look into the matter. CM Vijay Rupani announced the appointment of the committee to be headed by the deputy director of medical education. He found there was no shortage of doctors or medical facilities in the hospital but the government would not hesitate from taking stern action against anyone if found guilty of negligence by the three-member committee. “This is a very sad incident and we have already appointed a panel to look into the reasons. We will immediately initiate steps to overcome any negligence or lacunae found by the panel,” Rupani said. “However, prima facie, it appears that the case is not about lack of availability of medicines or medical facilities,” he said. -PTC News
