A 9-year-old child from Amsterdam is all set to complete his bachelor’s degree and become the world’s youngest graduate. The prodigy, Laurent Simons, will get his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) in December.
Born in Belgium, Simons finished his secondary school at the age of eight and is all set to become a graduate next month, completing his degree in just nine months. He is planning to enroll for a PhD programme in electrical engineering and simultaneously study for a medicine degree.
Simons started his schooling at the age of four and completed five years of study in just 12 months. Her mother, Lydia jokingly quips that she ate a lot of fish during the pregnancy.
Education director of the TUE bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Sjoerd Hulshof said, “It is not unusual. We arrange an adjusted schedule for special students.” He describes Simons as “simply extraordinary”.
According to him, he is the fastest student they ever had. “Not only is he hyper-intelligent, but he is also a sympathetic boy,” he added.
