Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today described the coming together of AAP and Insaf Party as a marriage between two rank opportunists who were getting desperate to remain politically relevant. In a statement here, SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said AAP Punjab in-charge Sanjay Singh and State Convenor Gurpreet Singh Waraich alias Ghuggi ran away from facing the media when questioned why AAP had reneged on its stand to never have any electoral truck with any party in Punjab. He said both Sanjay and Ghuggi chose to flee the press conference rather than answer why they had gone against their own party rule. He said the desperation in AAP circles was showing. "How else can you describe its decision to give five seats to a two man party? This proves AAP realises it is no longer relevant in Punjab and is searching for props to remain afloat". As far as the Bains brothers and their rag tag Insaf Party was concerned, the Akali leader said the brothers who were now targeting the SAD and the Congress had tried to ingratiate themselves to both parties in the recent past. "The Bains brothers tried to get into the SAD after the last assembly elections in 2012. They turned against the SAD only when they were turned down firmly and told that the SAD did not subscribe to their brand of blackmail politics. He said recently the Bains brothers held meetings with the Congress in order to join the party but when they did not get what they wanted they chose to join AAP today. "We don't need such rank opportunists who have a history of using intimidation and even violence to achieve their nefarious goals to teach us political lessons. The people are there for this purpose. They know how to deal with opportunists at the hustings".-
