Bikram Singh Majithia defamation case: A day after arrest warrants were issued against Sanjay Singh, national spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the leader appeared in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Singh in Ludhiana on Tuesday. The court granted him bail and fixed September 17 as the next date of hearing.
The defamation case against him was filed by senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in 2016.

The arrest warrant was issued by Chief Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Singh, Ludhiana, after Sanjay Singh failed to appear in the court during resumed hearing of the defamation case filed by Bikram Singh Majithia.
Of 71 hearings held in the case so far, Sanjay Singh has attended only four. The court had asked the police to produce him in the court on September 17. However, he himself appeared in the court on Tuesday.

Sanjay Singh’s lawyer had filed an application on his behalf seeking exemption from his appearance, which was dismissed by the Judge and the arrest warrants were issued.
The defamation case was filed in January 2016 for Sanjay Singh’s alleged defamatory statements at a Moga rally on September 5, 2015, linking Bikram Singh Majithia with the drug trade.
As per the complaint filed by SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in January 2016, Sanjay Singh had allegedly made defamatory statements against him at a rally at Moga in Punjab on September 5, 2015. Again, on December 27, 2015, at a public rally at Fatehgarh Sahib, Sanjay Singh made similar statements about Majithia that he was involved in drug trafficking.
