Actresses only have basic knowledge of rhythm and 'sur': Neeti Mohan

Mumbai: At a time when lot of actresses like Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra are lending their voice to songs in their films, singer Neeti Mohan feels heroines have little knowledge of 'sur' and rhythm as compared to professional artists. "Every artist has an expression and they have full rights to express themselves be it through singing. When actresses sing it promotes their movies in a big way. They have a liking towards music but they have a very basic knowledge of beats and rhythm and sur," "Neeti told PTI. The "Ishq Wala Love" singer thinks one can't compare an actress and a professional singer as both are different. "I enjoy when I hear actresses sing. But at the same time I know its just for a movie and singers have to entertain a live audience. So there's a difference and I totally support both." Neeti is seen as one of the judges on the second season of singing reality show "The Voice India". "This is the second time I am a part of the show and I am very happy. This format has been running successfully all over the world in more than 160 countries." According to the 37-year-old singer the show is about finding that one right voice. "Its a very focused way of getting the right voice on the show and less of drama and anything else. I am honored to be sharing the panel with Benny Dayal, Shaan and Salim Merchant." The show "The Voice India" is aired on &TV channel. There are lot of other singing reality shows but the "Tune Maari Entry yaar" singer feels more the reality shows the better. "I have not got the chance to watch other shows yet but I am aware about them. I got a chance to see flashes of 'Dil Hai Hindustani' and I found it very entertaining but I haven't watched 'Rising Star' and 'Indian Idol'. "I have followed 'Indian Idol' in the past and it is a great show and 'Rising Star' is very unique with the live voting system so I might check it out. I think more music, better it is for us," she says.   — PTI
