Illegal Mining in Punjab: Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday conducted a raid in Mukerian to crackdown on illegal mining.
After Beas, Sukhbir Singh Badal visited Mukerian and saw how the mafia has extracted sand up to 200 feet. On illegal mining in Mukeria, he asked Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria to tell Punjabis which law allows extraction of sand up to 200 feet? Officially the limit is 10 feet only, he said.

Two days back when we exposed illegal mining at Beas, the Mining Secretary justified the same, he said.

"I’m waiting how the government will justify illegal activity at Mukerian," he said, adding that "we weren’t afraid of cases." "Congress govt can register 10 cases against me but I’ll continue to safeguard interests of Punjabis," he added.
Recently, Shiromani Akali Dal had filed a complaint against Minister Sukhbinder Sarkaria, 5 Congress MLAs 3 mining kingpins at the Beas police station.
The truck drivers and villagers also filed separate complaints about ‘goonda tax’ and panchayat land being mined without permit respectively.
"The sheer audacity of sand mafia! They’re trying to divert attention from their crime by filing false complaints against SAD leaders who exposed the illegal activity," the SAD president said, adding that such confidence can only come from patronization to the mafia by Chief Minister.
The villagers told Sukhbir Singh Badal that police come every day but to collect bribes from mafia elements. Likewise, SAD demanded the arrest of mafia kingpins Ashok Chandak and Rakesh Chaudhary. The SAD president has been cracking down on illegal mining in Punjab.
