After Koo for Twitter, Centre launches Sandes app for WhatsApp
What is Sandes app? After the Government of India launched a Twitter alternate app 'Koo', the GoI has come up with WhatsApp alternate application Sandes. Twitter has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons as it allegedly ignored a directive from the government to suspend several handles propagating misinformation. Likewise, a number of politicians and celebrities migrated to the Indian alternative named Koo, urging others to follow the same. Similarly, Facebook-owned WhatsApp is facing outrage in India over its latest privacy policy. Meanwhile, the National Informatics Centre has launched its own instant messaging platform called Sandes, an alternate of WhatsApp. What is WhatsApp alternate Sandes app? Currently, Sandes is only available to authorised government employees. In April 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had advised government employees not to use Zoom citing safety and privacy issues. Reportedly, the app is currently available for both, Android and iOS platforms but only accessible by “authorised government officials.” Just like WhatsApp, Sandes app offers features like groups, broadcast messages, message forwarding and emojis. Even as it allows users to backup chat histories to a registered email.
