Ahead of elections, Amit Shah to hit campaign trail in western UP
Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit western Uttar Pradesh for the first time after the announcement of polls in the state.
The Home Minister will hold a door-to-door campaign, meet party workers and interact with intellectuals during his visit to Shamli and Merrut districts, which are crucial for BJP's electoral prospects.
On Saturday afternoon, Amit Shah will embark on a door-to-door campaign in Kairana. In 2016, the constituency had witnessed an exodus of Hindu families and later, their return after extensive efforts. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Mriganka Singh for the upcoming 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. She eldest daughter of late Hukum Singh who had won the seat several times.

In Shamli, Amit Shah will hold a closed-door meeting with party leaders from Shamli and Baghpat.
The Home Minister will also hold a meeting with intellectuals in Meerut on Saturday evening and conclude his engagements for the day.
The elections in western Uttar Pradesh are crucial for the saffron party as it involves about 108 seats and BJP had done well in the previous assembly election.
BJP had bagged 83 seats in the region in the 2017 assembly elections and for the upcoming 2022 polls in Uttar Pradesh, the party leadership is confident of repeating the performance.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had swept Uttar Pradesh by winning 78 out of 80 seats. It won over 300 seats in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and 62 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when Amit Shah (now Home Minister was the party chief.
Notably, Amit Shah is believed to have a good understanding of caste dynamics in the state and also knows key workers personally across constituencies in the crucial state. State BJP leaders are optimistic that his campaigning and organisation skills would once again help the party to grab an impressive victory.
Elections to 403 member Uttar Pradesh assembly will be held in seven phases, with the first phase to be held in parts of Western Uttar Pradesh on February 10.
