Statewide protest against Congress: Akali workers burn effigies of Captain, Sunil Jakhar The Shiromani Akali Dal’s statewide protest continues in all the 117 assembly constituencies, here on Saturday during which Akali workers burnt effigies of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

The workers burnt effigies of Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Sunil Jakhar and Justice Ranjit under the leadership of Jagroop Singh Sekhwan in Gurdaspur district. The move comes after the Congress and AAP had blamed Badals for sacrilege and police firing incidents at Faridkot in 2015. Addressing a party meeting in Chandigarh on Friday, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal vowed to give a befitting reply to the “conspiracy to weaken” Sikh institutions, as well as the Sikh ‘Panth’. Badal also the SAD would not let the “criminal conspiracy hatched” by the Congress, along with radical leaders and AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira, to disturb the hard-won peace and communal harmony of the state. The Akali leaders also asserted that the chief minister had misled the assembly by stating that the SAD president did not visit the families of two youths killed in the Behbal Kalan firing incident. “The SAD president did not only visit the two families, but they were also given financial compensation besides government jobs,” they added. SAD will also hold a ‘Pol Khol’ rally in Abohar on September 9 to highlight the alleged conspiracy hatched by the Punjab Congress government against it. -PTC News
