Amid rise in coronavirus cases, Bihar and Maharashtra extend lockdown

Amid a rise in coronavirus cases, lockdown imposed in Bihar and Maharashtra has been extended to contain the spread of COVID-19. Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government announced to extend the ongoing lockdown till 7 am on June 1 to break the chain of coronavirus transmission. The milk collection, transport, and processing would be allowed without any restrictions, however, its retail sale may be allowed subject to restrictions imposed on shops dealing with essential items or via home delivery. Similarly, the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown in the state till May 25 to contain coronavirus. Taking to Twitter, Nitish Kumar wrote: "Today, a review of the lockdown in Bihar was done with fellow ministers and officials. Positive consequences of the lockdown have been witnessed. That's why, a decision has been taken to extend the lockdown for the next 10 days, which means from May 16 to May 25, 2021." Earlier, the shutdown was imposed from May 4 till May 15.
