A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday reached the Bhopal residence of Giribala Singh and later arrested her in connection with the death case of her daughter in law, Twisha Sharma.
CBI officials were seen entering the residence of Giribala Singh in the Bag Mughaliya Extension area of Bhopal. Sources said the agency questioned her following a High Court order before taking her into custody.
On Wednesday, the High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail earlier granted to Giribala Singh in the dowry harassment case. Just two days after Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial home on May 12, Giribala Singh had approached a sessions court in Bhopal seeking anticipatory bail.
Meanwhile, Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh was arrested by Bhopal Police on May 23 from the Jabalpur district court premises after remaining absconding for nearly 10 days.
Earlier that day, Samarth Singh had withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court and expressed his intention to surrender before a trial court in Bhopal.
After his arrest, a Bhopal court sent him to seven days of police custody for questioning in connection with allegations of dowry harassment and Twisha Sharma’s death. Investigators said they are also examining digital evidence, including chats and call records, as part of the ongoing investigation.
