PTC Web Desk:  A 28-year-old man suffered severe burns after his wife allegedly poured boiling oil and chilli powder on him while he was asleep at their home in Madangir. The horrifying incident took place around 3 am on October 3, leaving the man, identified as Dinesh, in critical condition.

According to the police, Dinesh, who works at a pharmaceutical company, was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital with serious burns to his face, chest, and arms. He remains in the ICU. An FIR was registered the same day at Ambedkar Nagar police station.

In his statement, Dinesh said he had returned home late from work, had dinner, and gone to bed alongside his wife and eight-year-old daughter. Around 3:15 am, he woke up in excruciating pain to find his wife pouring hot oil on him and then sprinkling red chilli powder over his burns. When he tried to resist, she allegedly threatened to pour more oil if he shouted for help.

His cries alerted neighbours and the landlord’s family, who rushed upstairs to find the door locked from inside. Once opened, they saw Dinesh in agony and his wife attempting to hide. When she tried to take him in the opposite direction from the hospital, neighbours intervened and arranged an auto to take him to a nearby hospital before he was referred to Safdarjung.

The police said the couple had been married for eight years and had a history of domestic disputes. The wife has been booked under Sections 118, 124, and 326 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing grievous injuries using dangerous substances. No arrests have been made so far, and an investigation is underway.
