Goa: 7 killed, several injured in stampede in Lairai Devi temple
The injured were immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa for treatment.
PTC News Desk: At least seven people were killed and over 30 injured after a stampede broke out during the Shri Lairai Zatra in Goa’s Shirgao late on Friday. The injured were immediately rushed to the Goa Medical College (GMC) and the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa for treatment.
The cause of the stampede has not been ascertained yet.
Shri Lairai Zatra is an annual festival which holds great reverance and is celebrated at the Shri Lairai Devi Temple in Goa’s Shirgao. Devotees from across the state and beyond gather to honour Goddess Lairai, believed to be a form of Goddess Parvati.
The festival includes a majestic procession of the deity, accompanied by rhythmic drums, devotional songs, and ritual offerings. Thousands of devotees and tourists gather to experience the colorful ceremonies and receive the goddess's blessings.
