Several reports suggest that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may step down soon, potentially clearing the way for Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to assume the top post after months of political uncertainty and a power struggle within the ruling Congress.
PTC News Desk: In a dramatic new development in the ongoing Karnataka leadership crisis, Thawar Chand Gehlot left for Mumbai late Wednesday night, triggering fresh speculation over a possible change in the state’s leadership.
Several reports suggest that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may step down soon, potentially clearing the way for Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to assume the top post after months of political uncertainty and a power struggle within the ruling Congress.
The Governor’s sudden departure came a day after sources claimed Siddaramaiah had sought an appointment with him and was expected to submit his resignation on Thursday.
According to reports, Gehlot left Bengaluru for Mumbai around 11:30 pm on Wednesday due to a family emergency, and no return journey has reportedly been scheduled so far. Sources further indicated that the Governor may travel to Indore later on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, political buzz around a possible leadership transition has intensified, with speculation mounting that Siddaramaiah could formally resign later today.
Sources from the Chief Minister’s Office said Siddaramaiah is likely to visit Raj Bhavan on Thursday afternoon, between 2:30 pm and 3 pm, to hand over his resignation letter. However, in the Governor’s absence, the resignation may instead be submitted to the Governor’s secretary.
Attention is now focused on a crucial breakfast meeting scheduled for 9 am at the Chief Minister’s official residence, ‘Kaveri’, in Bengaluru. Siddaramaiah is expected to brief cabinet ministers and senior Congress leaders on the unfolding political developments and his next course of action.
All cabinet ministers and Congress MLAs, including DK Shivakumar, are expected to attend the meeting.
